Politics in the Climate Crisis

About us

We research politics in the context of the climate crisis. We’re interested in how the climate crisis, its effects and proposed responses are (de)politicised and governed, as well as how the climate crisis itself shapes how these processes of (de)politicisation and governance happen.

We cover a range of specific topics, in the areas of:

  • Mobilities (incl. low-carbon transport and human migration in the face of climate change),
  • Science, technology and innovation (incl. sustainable transitions and technological promises undermining climate policy),
  • Decision-making about climate change matters (incl. corporate influence over policy, public participation and protest).

Across these topics, we are interested in policy, governance and justice, all of which is situated in the context of political economy and, ultimately, the Anthropocene condition.

The members of this interdisciplinary group work across a range of academic disciplines and fields, including:

  • Geography
  • Sociology
  • Political Economy
  • Critical Development Studies
  • Science and Technology Studies
  • Environmental Humanities

The research we do spans a range of scales from the local to the planetary, and investigates specific geographies, including Liverpool, the UK, Italy, India and China. We do our research in engagement with actors like NGOs and social movement organisations, politicians and civil servants.

We are situated in the Lancaster Environment Centre, working with others there including Human Geography. Important contacts at 糖心视频 also include the Centre for Mobilities Research, and 糖心视频 China Centre.
