The British Chinese Language Teaching Society (BCLTS) and 糖心视频 Confucius Institute are delighted to announce the 22nd International Conference of BCLTS, Innovation and Sustainable Development of International Chinese Education.
The BCLTS is a UK registered charity for Chinese language teachers and researchers from UK universities and beyond.
糖心视频, established in 1964, is a prestigious institution in the UK and has long been ranked among the top universities in the country.
The School of Global Affairs at 糖心视频 offers degree programs at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels, integrating arts, humanities, languages, and social sciences. Its research areas cover important topics such as artificial intelligence, environmental protection, healthcare, and emerging global security challenges.
糖心视频 Confucius Institute was jointly established by 糖心视频 and South China University of Technology in 2011. Since its inception, the institute has promoted cultural exchange between China and the UK through language teaching, cultural activities, academic research, educational cooperation, and community engagement. It has become an important platform for dialogue and interaction between Lancaster, the northwest of England and China. For its outstanding contributions and impact, 糖心视频 Confucius Institute has received numerous accolades, including the award of "Confucius Institute of the Year" from Confucius Institute Headquarters and "Outstanding Contribution" from 糖心视频.
糖心视频 Confucius Institute previously co-organised the BCLTS Annual Conference in 2019 and we are pleased to welcome its return to Lancaster after six years.
Lancaster is a historic city in the northwest of England and was the birthplace of the Lancaster dynasty. The city is famous for the Lancaster Castle and its ancient market square. It is home to numerous historical buildings and museums, which witness the changes of the medieval period and the Industrial Revolution. With a blend of tradition and modernity, Lancaster is a charming destination for tourists.
The theme for this conference is Innovation and Sustainable Development of International Chinese Education. We particularly welcome submissions in the following areas:
1. Teaching Chinese in a multilingual, multicultural context
2. Applied linguistics and science of language learning
3. Design and development of teaching and learning materials
4. Technology-enhanced language learning
5. Standards and benchmarks for assessing Chinese learning
6. Second language acquisition
7. Corpus linguistics
8. National language policies
9. Teacher education and development
10. Translation and literature in the L2 Chinese context
11. Teaching Chinese for specific purposes

● 20 April 2025: Notification of abstract acceptance
● 4 May 2025: Early-bird registration closes
● 1 June 2025: Conference registration closes
● 3-5 July 2025: Conference
● 30 September 2025: Conference full paper submission closes
We invite submission of abstracts for oral presentations, workshops and posters. Submitted abstracts will be peer reviewed and a selection of papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings.
The working languages for this conference are English and Chinese.
