My vision in research is to develop solutions to unique problems associated with human health via scientific breakthroughs in biochemical systems and materials science.
Precision sensing for health and environment. We develop biosensors, bioelectronic devices, and sustainable materials for real-world diagnostic challenges. Check out the website.
We develop advanced electrochemical biosensors for clinically important targets, including protein biomarkers, pathogens, and toxins. We tailor our platforms to deliver the optimal balance of sensitivity, selectivity, and long-term stability by combining multiple reaction strategies, such as enzymes, aptamers, DNA probes, and molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs).
To translate our sensing strategies into real-world use, we design and fabricate wearable and implantable solutions. Our current directions include skin-interfaced sweat microfluidics, microneedle electrode arrays that access interstitial fluid, and fully bioresorbable implantable bioelectrochemical devices that dissolve harmlessly after use.
A key pillar of our work is sustainable and bioinspired materials and design. We utilise conducting polymers and redox-active nanocomposites derived from biomass sources, moving away from expensive, hazardous chemical syntheses and costly proteins. We develop bioinspired solutions using greener, more biocompatible electrode materials that maintain high performance while reducing environmental impact.
Research Grants
I received research funding from several funding sources in different countries. These include research councils (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye, T?B?TAK), institutions (Health Institutes of Türkiye, T?SEB), and non-profit organisations (Breakthroguth T1D, USA, and Fulbright Commission TR-USA).
