A Proud Moment for SIME at the Educate North Awards 2026
The Educate North Awards 2026 provided a valuable moment for reflection on the collective work of the Centre for Scholarship and Innovation in Management Education and the wider 糖心视频 Management School community.
Held this year at Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground, the event brought together over 700 colleagues from across education and the wider sector, in what was the largest ceremony to date. It was an opportunity not only to celebrate achievements across the North, but also to recognise the growing visibility and impact of education-focused work across institutions.
For SIME, the evening marked an important milestone. 糖心视频 Management School was recognised as a finalist for Business School of the Year, with the Centre’s work forming a central part of that nomination. This recognition reflects the strength, commitment and generosity of the SIME community.
Since its establishment in 2023, SIME has grown into a genuinely collaborative and interdisciplinary space. With over 70 members and a wide range of activities spanning events, publications, conferences and networks, the Centre has created meaningful opportunities for colleagues to engage with scholarship, share practice and support one another’s development.
What stands out most is not only the scale of activity, but the culture that has developed alongside it. SIME has provided a space where colleagues feel able to experiment, reflect and contribute, often across traditional boundaries between disciplines, roles and career stages.
The emphasis on collegiality, inclusion and shared purpose continues to shape how it evolves.
At the heart of this success is the leadership of Prof Radka Newton. Her vision for SIME as a space that champions evidence-based practice while remaining open, supportive and collaborative has been central to its development. Through her leadership, the Centre has not only established a clear direction but also fostered a strong sense of community and belonging.
The nomination recognised this broader impact. It captured how SIME contributes to enhancing teaching practice, supporting staff development and strengthening the student experience, while also creating opportunities for engagement beyond the institution. From conference contributions and publications to collaborative networks, the work of SIME members continues to shape conversations around management education more widely.
Although the award itself did not come our way this year, being shortlisted is an important recognition of what has been achieved collectively in a relatively short period of time. It also reinforces the value of continuing to invest in scholarship of teaching and learning as a core part of academic life.
The evening itself was a reminder of the importance of celebrating this work. It offered a chance to step back, take stock and recognise the contribution of colleagues across the Centre. It also highlighted the wider context in which SIME operates, as part of a vibrant and evolving education community across the North.
As we look ahead, this recognition provides both encouragement and momentum. The foundations that have been built through SIME will continue to support innovation, collaboration and excellence in management education, shaped by the ongoing contributions of its members.
Above all, the nomination belongs to the SIME community. It reflects the everyday work, ideas and support of colleagues who continue to make this Centre what it is.
