Dr David Rietzke
Senior LecturerResearch Overview
David Rietzke is a microeconomic theorist who uses game theory to study how firms and individuals respond to incentives: how rivals compete in contests, what drives incentives for research and development, and how regulation, market structure and the organisation of supply chains shape competition between firms, including their decisions to enter markets. He is also interested in both applying and further developing monotone comparative statics, a set of tools for predicting how economic decisions respond to changes in underlying conditions.
His work has been published in leading journals including Econometrica, the Journal of Economic Theory, the RAND Journal of Economics and Games and Economic Behavior.
Profile
David completed his undergraduate and master’s degrees at Miami University in Ohio. He then earned his PhD at the University of Arizona before moving to Lancaster in 2014. He is a Coordinating Editor at Theory and Decision, co-director of the Economics PhD programme, and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

PhD Supervision Interests
I am happy to supervise students working in industrial organisation or economic theory. Possible topics include the economics of regulation, innovation and incentives for research and development, and the role of asymmetric information in these settings. I would also welcome students interested in monotone comparative statics, whether applying these tools to economic problems or developing them further.
