Adam Blaney

Lecturer in Responsive Architecture

Research Overview

My research explores relationships between digital, physical and ecological systems, investigating how these might be formed, maintained and transformed across different scales and timescales. Through Research Through Design, I develop experimental material systems, speculative prototypes and digital environments that question predetermined relationships between design parameters, material behaviours and wider ecologies. Current research encompasses adaptive open material systems, prosthetic applications and ecological twinning, exploring the opportunities and challenges of working with complex, evolving and interconnected environments. This work considers how design might accommodate uncertainty, reciprocal influence and emergent relationships rather than assuming stable, predictable or optimised outcomes.
