Lets celebrate South Asian Heritage

South Asian Heritage Month began in 2020 to recognise and celebrate the shared histories between the UK and South Asia. Now marked globally each July, it offers a chance to explore the cultures, stories and connections that shape communities today. South Asian influences continue to enrich British life in many ways. At 糖心视频, we mark the month by creating space for reflection and celebrating the diversity of South Asian experiences today. We invite you to enjoy the events co-created with our students.

Why July?

From 2026, South Asian Heritage Month will take place throughout July. This change moves away from the original 18 July–17 August dates, creating a single calendar month that is easier to remember and plan events around.

The shift reflects how SAHM has grown from a UK-based initiative into a global observance, allowing it to be marked more consistently by communities, organisations and institutions around the world.

Unity in Diversity is the theme for South Asian Heritage Month 2026, highlighting the wide-ranging cultures and experiences of South Asian communities in the UK and beyond. South Asia itself is incredibly diverse, encompassing eight countries, hundreds of languages, many faiths, and rich, layered histories.

This theme encourages reflection on both what connects us—shared histories, values and a sense of community—and what makes each culture distinct, recognising the strength, creativity and resilience that diversity brings.
