Dr Sana Hannan

Lecturer in Neuroscience

Research Overview

I am a Lecturer in Neuroscience in the Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences, where I lead the .

Our research is dedicated to advancing understanding of neural dynamics in the human brain in both health and disease. We aim to uncover how patterns of neural activity across brain networks support everyday functions and identify what goes wrong in neurological disorders, with a focus on sleep, epilepsy, memory, and dementia. We use both invasive and non-invasive neurophysiological methods, particularly high-density and intracranial EEG, together with advanced analytical tools to study brain activity at millisecond-level resolution.

Research in the NEON Lab is highly interdisciplinary and lies at the intersection of neurophysiology, cognitive neuroscience, and biomedical engineering. Current research themes include:

  1. Sleep and Memory Processing

  2. Sleep–Epilepsy Interactions

  3. Epilepsy and the Ageing Brain

I am happy to hear from prospective PhD students, MSc by Research students, and postdoctoral researchers who are interested in pursuing projects in the NEON Lab. For initial enquiries, please email me your CV and a brief outline of your research interests, including the theme you are most interested in.
